Coulomb frames in the normal bundle of surfaces in R^n

This talk addresses two-dimensional surfaces in Euclidean spaces of higher codimension and the geometry and analysis of their normal bundles. We introduce torsion quantities associated with the geometry of normal bundles, and we discuss a new concept of Coulomb frames, originally introduced by F. Helein to describe the analytic behaviour of harmonic mappings between manifolds, which are stationary for a functional of total torsion.
