Talk
GIT and Chow Quotients by Tori
Rene Birkner
2 Aug 2006, 10:00 – 12:00

In this talk we will give a gentle introduction to invariant theory. In particular, categorical, good and geometric quotients, as well as linearisations and (semi) stable points will be defined. As an application, we will see how the torus $ T = \mathbb{C}^{*k}$ acts on $ \mathbb{C}^{n}$ and that GIT-quitients are toric (fiberpolytopes). The Chow quotient is given by the Minkowski sum of them.
