I will discuss an algorithm that associates to certain quivers a superpotential. Geometrically this means embedding the quiver into a compact oriented surface. The surface comes with a tessellation by quadrangles and the combinatorics of this tessellation is directly related to singularities and discriminants in toric geometry.
